A World of Adventure (K/1 & 2/3)

GLOBAL ADVENTURE!
Ahoy! Join us as we embark on a global adventure through the Beautiful Feet “Around the World” curriculum, exploring the cultures, geography, and traditions of Europe and South America in the first part of our class. We will journey through the diverse countries of Europe and South America, learning about different landscapes, people, and customs. Through captivating stories and engaging activities, we will discover famous landmarks, animals, and traditions from these regions. This portion of the class will integrate stories to provide a well-rounded, immersive experience that sparks curiosity and creativity. Throughout the class, character stories, seasonal celebrations and little performances will help build positive values and personal growth. Mayra DiLisio and Brisa Flowers will co-lead the first part of this class.
MUSIC ADVENTURE!
“Tell me, I forget, show me, I remember, involve me, I understand.” Carl Orff
Now it’s time to sing, dance, and play in an Orff Schulwerk based music experience in the second part of this class. The Orff Schulwerk is a developmental approach to music education that utilizes singing, movement, rhythmic play, speech, story, and instrument play to unlock the innate musicianship in every child. We will be so busy having fun that the children will not realize how hard they are working to develop the essential skills required to be a musical person. We will lay the groundwork to perhaps someday learn to play an instrument or sing in a choir. We will learn to match pitch, sing melodies in tune, keep a steady beat, make rhythmic patterns, move expressively to music, folk dance, understand basic musical forms, and more! Children will also be exposed to Kodaly’s system of solfege and the beginnings of reading notation on the staff. Now is the ideal time to participate in high quality musical experiences in order to develop musical neuropathways. Let’s make a joyful noise together! Elizabeth Cotton will be the lead instructor for the second section of the class.
SPANISH ADVENTURE!
¿Listo para jugar? Who’s ready for some fun with the Spanish language? Simple words and phrases will be introduced through songs, stories, and interactive activities, fostering language development in a playful, engaging way. By the end of the unit, students will be able to greet others, learn numbers, and identify animals and colors in Spanish. ¡Vamos! Eunice Favela will be the lead instructor for this portion of the class.
By the end of this course, students will have expanded their worldview, embraced new languages and music, and learned valuable lessons in kindness and respect for others. This fun and engaging class is designed to ignite a passion for learning and inspire a love for the world around them!
