Drama (High School)
High School Drama is designed to sharpen students’ skills as they hone their vocal, physical, and imaginative abilities and prepare for live performance. This class provides students with a deep understanding of acting as they explore the process, techniques, and methods of the craft. Students will be introduced to acting terminology, performance techniques, and the rich history of theater as they develop as performers. Students will engage in character analysis through monologues and scene work, working both independently and in groups utilizing scripts from various genres and time periods.
On a regular basis, students will participate in improv games, character-crafting activities, and other imaginative storytelling exercises. They’ll be equipped with an understanding of movement, stage direction, and other technical aspects of the stage as they engage meaningfully with both the script and their audience. As a conclusion to the class, students will get the opportunity to perform onstage in front of a live audience. The first semester will focus on acquiring skills, knowledge, and technique, while in the second semester, those elements will be applied through the performance of a play.
*Please note the slight change of dates for this class. It now runs on Mondays from September 7th, 2026 through March (TBD), 2027. Performances will take place sometime in March (TBD) and the tech week will run one week before the performances. We are working to secure the performance space and will reveal the final show dates soon! Please note that tech week is absolutely MANDATORY for students performing in the play. The students will be required to sign a commitment contract in order to perform.
