Literature's Search for God (9th-12th)

Classic literature has gifted the world with stories and poetry that deal with many universal truths, and whose characters often search for meaning, identity and value in their spheres of influence. The authors may not have even realized that their stories often reflect the cry that Augustine mentioned in his Confessions: “Lord, you have made us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find rest in you” (Confessions 1.1.1.).

In this Classic Literature course, we will read several classic works and examine them from a Christian perspective. Were these authors actually, and perhaps unknowingly, searching for God? Join the discussion and we will see what these authors have to teach us about faith.

This is a one-year course intended for High School students, but middle school students with strong reading skills and who can handle the titles and themes may join. In addition to reading and discussion, there will be a variety of writing assignments (both creative and essay).
