Knitting & Design Studio (7th-12th)
This hands-on course introduces students to knitting and fiber arts while building skills in design, problem-solving, and craftsmanship. Students of all experience levels are welcome, with instruction tailored to support individual growth. In addition to knitting, students will learn some basic mending skills and have the opportunity to explore other fiber techniques, such as crochet and embroidery.
We will complete a variety of projects throughout the year, with the option in the second semester to choose between 2–3 smaller projects or one larger, more complex piece such as a sweater, shawl, or bag. Students ready for additional challenges may choose a project that showcases advanced techniques such as colorwork, cables, or lace, working closely with me to plan a project that fits their skills and interests.
This course includes real-world applications of math and design through gauge, measurement, and proportional planning, helping students move beyond following patterns to designing and customizing their own work. Students will also explore the history and cultural significance of textile arts, along with examples of contemporary fiber art.
A supply list will be provided in August
