Photography: Visual Storytelling (10th-12th)

Discover how to transform a simple snapshot into a powerful narrative. In this course, we move beyond “taking pictures” to focus on the two most important tools in a photographer’s kit: Light and Storytelling. Students will begin with DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera basics, then learn how to find and use available light, and “share a feeling” by using light. Then they’ll move on to manipulating their cameras to tell a story from their own unique perspective. They’ll take “photo walks” around the EUREKA! campus and down Myrtle Street to capture images to incorporate.

Additionally, students will study the history of photography and research master photographers to find their own style. The course culminates in a final Photo Essay Project, where students will showcase their ability to tell a complete story through a curated series of images.
